So many game shows give away so much money! Where does all that money come from? I realize that at least some of it is from sponsors, such as a vacation to a certain resort, or the “$1,000 for eBay” on the Wheel of Fortune. But what about the money with no obvious backing, such as the money given away on “Deal or No Deal” or “Who Wants to Be a Millioniare?” Whose money is that? Do the studios really have that much money to blow on a regular basis?

I was watching a game show and my dad said that you have to pay taxes on the money you get. Is this true?

How do game shows make money? All they do is give out tons of money!

Like for instead this “deal or no deal” – who gives the money to the game show to give to these people?

Or any game show for that matter…

just curious really it is sad that we are in such a deficit but companies rather give away billions , and what for two weeks straight everyone won the top prize on gameshows?

My husband won 20,000 on the Price is Right. We are Canadians, and they withheld 37% for taxes and I know that as Canadians, we are not taxed on the winnings. Does anyone know if these are treated the same as gambling winnings or as income? and how I might go about getting our money back?

Or is it just another entertainment? Because sometime they do win a lot of money, and I wonder how they get that money to give out for just a game show?
