Every 3 months I get a nice check in the mail from Exxon-Mobile. My dad left me some shares of stock when he passed away. Aren’t these checks the profit the company made from selling me (and you) gas? Does this mean that when the newspapers and TV news are talking about oil companies making obsene profits, they are talking about me because I “own” Exxon-Mobil (along with a couple of million other people who also own stock)?

It makes no sense to me when huge lawsuits (for example the one against the woman who downloaded songs that is the news) are filed against someone who will never have that kind of money. It ‘s like if someone sued me for millions, well they would never get it as I don’t even make 10k a year. Why do people and companies waste their time suing for something they will never get?
