why do people who have little money get sued for huge amounts?

It makes no sense to me when huge lawsuits (for example the one against the woman who downloaded songs that is the news) are filed against someone who will never have that kind of money. It ’s like if someone sued me for millions, well they would never get it as I don’t even make 10k a year. Why do people and companies waste their time suing for something they will never get?
